CPP & EI Calculator for the Self-Employed (2026)
Estimate the Canada Pension Plan (both halves, CPP and CPP2) and optional EI premiums you will owe on your self-employment income at tax time, and how much to set aside each month.
How it works
- Self-employed people pay both the employee and employer CPP share: 2 × 5.95% on earnings between $3,500 and $74,600, plus CPP2 at 2 × 4% between $74,600 and $85,000.
- If you also have a job, the CPP your employer withheld counts first.
- EI is opt-in for the self-employed: 1.63% of earnings up to $68,900 (max $1,123.07), giving access to special benefits (maternity, parental, sickness, caregiving).
